Bahrain Crayon Holder Tutorial

Bahrain (Arabic: ‏البحرين‎), officially the Kingdom of Bahrain (Arabic: مملكة البحرين‎) is a small island country situated near the western shores of the Persian Gulf and one of the 21 members of the Arab League.

The national flag of Bahrain consists of a white band on the left, separated from a red area on the right by triangles that serve as a serrated line. Although there are suppose to be five triangles, we were only able to fit in four triangles.

I apologize to anyone from the country of Bahrain who feels that we are misrepresented their flag. I would recommend trying this craft with a larger can, so that the flag is accurate. We used a small tomato paste can, but I'd recommend using a tomato sauce can, if you are trying this at home. Or make your triangles smaller.

I will try to fix this craft after Ramadan is over and redo it so the flag is accurate. I hope that people will take my exhaustion as an excuse for this evening and allow me this tutorial for now.

Supplies
Lined cutting mat
Tomato paste can
Blue painters tape
Xacto
Ruler
Newspaper
Paintbrush
Bright red fabric paint
White fabric paint
Fabric glue
Canvas fabric (1/2 inch taller and 1 inch wider then the can)
Iron (not pictured)
Towel for ironing (not pictured)

Paint the entire canvas white. Let it dry in a sunny spot or overnight.

Lay out the painters tape evenly on the cutting mat and use the ruler and xacto to make triangles like the ones below. We made lines across every 1 1/2 inch and then connected the corners from each 3 inch corner.  You'll end up with four triangles.

Place the blue triangles over the white painted canvas and paint the other side bright red.

Let your paint dry and flip your canvas over.  Iron the edges down so that the canvas fits better over the edges.

Place fabric glue all over the can, using a finger to spread it out, making sure to get into the crevasses of the can ridges.

Tightly wrap the fabric over the can, adding a little more on the end, lengthwise.

Fold over the edge and hold it down for a few minutes until your fabric sticks.

Pick up all the crayons all over the house and put then in your new holder!
